A movie directed by Andrew Stanton told about the abandoned earth, because of its condition which hadn’t been feasible to lived in by humans. This condition was caused by the piles of non recyclable garbage. Therefore, the humans decided to create a spacecraft as their new world.
Hundred-thousands of garbage disposal robot named WALL-E was left to
clean up the earth. After hundreds of years, there was only one unit WALL-E remaining
and he was still working to clean the earth from the trash. One day, when
WALL-E did his work, he found a small plant that was actually very rare due to
circumstances of the earth. Then, WALL-E decided to keep the plant in an old
shoe.
Soon after, a spaceship came to earth to usher a female robot named EVE,
who was assigned to look for life symptoms on earth. EVE and WALL-E were
acquainted, then WALL-E show the small plant that he found to EVE. Because EVE
was already programmed to look for life symptoms, including plants, EVE kept
the plant into her body. After that, she was switched off automatically and was
re-picked up by the spacecraft. Because WALL-E was in love with EVE, WALL-E
followed the spacecraft.
The spacecraft finally arrived at the aircraft carrier named AXIOM. In
the plane, there are so many humans live, but the situation was very different
compared with the situation on earth hundreds years ago. They were just sitting
in a wheelchair and communicating through an electronic media like monitor
installed in each of their seats. The activities were controlled by robots, so
that humans became lazy and very fat and were unable to stand and walk. AXIOM’s
pilot, Captain B. McCrea, who has the same physical form to the others, hand
over his duty to the aircraft autopilot system named AUTO.
After met EVE and knew that she has found a plant on earth, The Captain
decided that humans should return to the earth. However, because AUTO was
programmed to prevent humans from return to the earth, the battle was ensued.
The humans also strived to be stand up and run, after these many years have
been spoiled by technology. The battle was won by the Captain, WALL-E, EVE, and
humans. Finally, the everybody could return to earth and live the life
normally.
So, what is the connection between this story and Human-Computer
Interaction ?
The story told that the technology development cause the humans to live
in a completely automated, practical, and technology-dependent lives. They
forgot the essence of life tself. Technology, in this term is computers,
including robots, has become a human controller. This should not be happen in
real life. The humans who should control the computers, not the opposite.

It also told about the condition of earth contaminated by the
non-recyclable garbage, including the electronics. This suggests that the
humans must act wisely in the purchase and use of electronics, it should not be
“garbage” that is not useful in the future.
This movie teaches us to pay more attention to the environment, both the
nature or social. Do not let the humans become the slaves of technology. It is
better if the humans are not only being a user, but also the controllers of
technology, so it will not attack us back in the future.
